There are simple tricks that can make the tiniest place become functional, practical and, of course, beautiful.
You’ll have to make some compromises in your decorating, get really organized, and make some adjustments to your lifestyle in order to make everything fit and not feel cramped. But that’s not so hard to so, is that?
- GET ITEMS OFF THE FLOOR: use shelves and hangers for storage and install appliances on the wall whenever you can.
- CLEAR OUT THE CLUTTER: There is nothing that makes a small space feel cramped more than having too much stuff. Use storage services if you need too, but try to keep your things neatly arranged and out of sight. You will feel the space wide open if it’s in order and clean.
- MULTITASK YOUR FURNITURE: select furniture that contains storage space or that can act in more than one function.
- HANG MIRRORS: A collection of mirrors will open up your space and can reflect light from the window giving a stronger feeling of a wider space.
- THINK FUNCTION: Create space based on your personal habits. If you never eat in the kitchen, for example, remove the table to make way for more clutter-busting, useful items.
- CHOOSE LIGHT COLORS AND LET IN THE LIGHT: Stick to neutral tones and plain colored upholstery for furniture if you can. Get rid of heavy draperies and open up the windows to let the light into the space. Add more lamps!
- USE GLASS: By using materials that you can see through, anything beyond will appear farther away. Glass-topped tables and glass shelves take up less visual space than dark, opaque pieces. And you’ll have to keep it neater, since you’ll be seeing under your dinner or coffee table.
- USE BIG FURNITURE: A lot of small pieces will clutter your space. Use a few large, simple pieces of furniture or accessories instead, the room will appear more calm and comfortable.
